I originally created this artwork to be used solely for my beautiful friend Sophias flower arrangements (https://www.flowersbysophiajean.com/). However, over many coffees and phone calls, this collaboration slowly grew and evolved to include my first ever print sale!
The most exciting part of this collaboration is that 100% of the profits generated from the sale of this artwork from both Sophia and myself will be donated. We have chosen to donate to different causes so please check out flowersbysophiajean.com to read up about her chosen charity and check out her beautiful bouquets.
My choice of charity changed a few times over the process of this journey, but with the current Covid-19 crisis affecting my family in small-town Wilcannia NSW, it felt like the perfect opportunity to give back to the community that has given me so much.
Wilcannia is a town with a population of around 800 mostly Indigenous people, As I am writing this, 10% of the community is currently infected with Covid-19. This town means so much to me not only because it is my traditional land as a Barkindji woman but because it is where so many of my loved ones are currently living including my Mother. This is a community with incredible disadvantages, including, generational health issues, overcrowding in homes, lack of access to phone and internet service, and lack of access to essential items with their single grocery store. Isolation and lockdown restrictions mean that my family is unable to get together as a community as they normally would. This is incredibly heartbreaking when you factor in the loss of important community members who the family is unable to mourn together let alone have a funeral for during these unprecedented times.
While all of these disadvantages face the community of Wilcannia they are still a community of incredible strength and love. Through the purchase of this print, you will be receiving a fine art print for yourself plus donating to the Covid-19 support efforts that are currently underway in the community.
As this is a pre-order, purchasing of this print will only last until the 22/09/2021 after which, all money accumulated from this print will be donated to Wilcannia and the printing and distribution of the print will begin.
